Welcome to My Personal Page
Dear Family and Friends,
I am excited to be participating in the Heel to Heal Plus Tackle Sickle Cell Walk and 5K on Sunday, May 19th, 2019 benefiting Embrace Kids Foundation. Embrace Kids supports children with cancer, blood disorders and other serious health challenges.
I don’t typically open myself up and bring you all behind my personal curtain, but now is the time to share some of my story with you. My daughter recently had her Spleen removed, she is ONLY 5. It was a necessary to do. Her mother and I have known since before she was born that she would have Sickle Cell Disease. What we did not know was what the severity of the disease and the doctors are still figuring out if she has the more severe form or a moderate form. What we do know is that he does not have the lesser form. Since she was 15 months old she has had 4 blood transfusions and 3 of those have been since October of 2018. Part of the reason for so many of these transfusions is that her Spleen had been eating her blood, for lack of a better term, and not expelling it out of her body, which is why the Doctors have recommended that her Spleen be removed. As many of you can imagine this a very scary time for our family. As a father and a man, this was the most scared I have been in my life watching them wheel my little girl from me into the operating room and waiting and praying for doctors to update us. The Good News is that she came through the operation well and everything was a HUGE Success. Just weeks after her surgery she has a Full, Clean bill of health and she is back to all of her activities without be held back.
I am filling you all in to let you know that I will be participating in my first 5K walk/run to raise money to supports children with cancer, blood disorders and other serious health challenges. For those of you that really know me and have seen me know that I am not your typical 5K person and definitely do not have the body type, but this is an important cause close to my heart and affects millions of people. I will be walking for my daughter and son, who are the 2 strongest people I know and as a family we have been through A LOT over the past few years and we are all still here to tell our story.
This cause is important to me, so I am asking for you to support my efforts.
Thank you all in advance for taking the time to read this and for all of your help. #RJRSTRONG
