Dear Family and Friends,
For a family, there is nothing as devastating as childhood cancer. The effects are emotional, physical, and financial, creating untold troubles as hospital bills pile up and the disease begins to consume all other parts of life. However, through the efforts of the Embrace Kids Foundation and Rutgers University Dance Marathon, many of these families have found relief that can help bring them through such a stressful and traumatic time.
Dance Marathon is a fundraiser for the Embrace Kids Foundation, a charity that helps provide for the non-medical needs of children diagnosed with cancer, sickle cell and other serious health challenges, treated in the pediatric hematology/oncology wing of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Embrace Kids offers a wide variety of services including emergency financial support, trauma counselors, tutors, child-life specialists, and support groups for families.
Rutgers University Dance Marathon is the largest student-run philanthropy in New Jersey, and participants have been helping Embrace Kids for more than a decade. Thanks to the incredible support that we received, last year Rutgers University Dance Marathon raised a record-breaking $1,083,986.13 and these proceeds went to Embrace Kids Foundation. Unfortunately, cancer still sickens many children, and the continuing economic troubles mean that many families are struggling with the massive costs of their children’s healthcare and are still in dire need of assistance.
Rutgers University Dance Marathon is constantly growing, and each year, more and more students sign up to participate. This year, RUDM is celebrating its 20 year anniversary! On April 6th and April 7th, 2017 the Louis Brown Athletic Center (the RAC) will once again be transformed into an enormous celebration. For 24 hours total (Friday 6:00 pm to 6:00 am and Saturday 9:00 am to 9:00 pm), hundreds of energetic dancers will dance and sing as they stand on their feet for the entire event. For the nineteenth consecutive year, hundreds of students and families across Rutgers, New Brunswick, and New Jersey will be united together: For The Kids.
As an Assistant Director of Human Resources, this is my third year involved in Dance Marathon, and I am committed to improving staff relations and raising money for Embrace Kids. However, I can’t do it alone: I need your help. Any contribution you can make will provide essential services to families battling cancer, sickle cell and other serious disorders.
